DraftKings NFL Week 2 Picks 2017

NFL Week 1 was a pretty crazy week fantasy scoring wise – or more specifically the lack of fantasy scoring.  When looking at my DraftKings picks from last week they actually ended up doing OK if you compare them to other popular picks for the week.  David Johnson outscored Bell by around 7 points, Rishard Matthews was one of the highest scoring value WR picks even though he didn’t go off completely, and Ty Montgomery was one of the higher scoring RBs on the slate.

I ended up winning some money at DraftKings in Week 1 thanks to entering the NFL Pick’em contests for the first time.  You can check out my DraftKings NFL Pick’em Strategy video I just released on my YouTube channel if you’re interested.

In that $7,500 winning lineup I used a Stafford and Golden Tate stack, which I talked about in my FantasyLabs exclusive video for the week.  You can get access to the FantasyLabs tools and my exclusive members only videos by signing up here.

Expect to see a lot higher scores winning GPPs at DraftKings here in Week 2.  And with that said let’s get right into my DraftKings NFL Week 2 picks.

Favorite DraftKings NFL Week 2 Picks

QUARTERBACK + WIDE RECEIVER STACK

Matt Ryan (ATL) $7,500 + Julio Jones (ATL) $9,200

This may be a high owned stack, but I’m not worried, as I think they have a good chance at being the highest scoring stack of the week.  Matt Ryan is coming off a mediocre Week 1 start, but he still managed to put up 20.94 DraftKings points completing 21 of 30 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown.  This week he will be playing in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in prime time vs the Packers.  The game has the second highest total of the week at 53.5 points, with the Falcons expected to put up around 28 points.

Green Bay looked solid defensively last week, but the Seahawks have one of the worst offensive lines in the league.  I’m expecting Matt Ryan to have a much easier time than Russell Wilson did last week.  Last year the Falcons faced the Packers twice – Ryan put up 24.4 DraftKings points in their regular season meeting and then 43 DraftKings points in their playoff game.  Julio Jones was targetted just 5 times the first time these two teams met last season and put up only 5.9 DraftKings points, but was targetted 12 times in the playoffs catching 9 passes for 180 yards and 2 Touchdowns.  I expect these two to have big games in their home opener.

RUNNING BACKS

Christian McCaffrey (CAR) $5,600

It was a fairly impressive debut by the rookie running back in Week 1.  McCaffrey rushed 13 times for 47 yards, but added most of his DraftKings points through the air with 5 receptions on 7 targets for 38 yards.  This totaled 12.5 DraftKings points for McCaffrey.  Of course I’m hoping for more production in Week 2 where he will face a below average Bills run defense, and I think that we could see that if he continues to get touches.  If McCaffrey gets the balls in his hands 18 times again this week I like his chances at putting up a nice DraftKings score, and I will take that shot in GPPs (I don’t think I would play him in cash).

Melvin Gordon (LAC) $7,000

Gordon is the type of running back I would be happy to use in cash games as well as GPPs because of his work load.  In Week 1 he carried the ball 18 times for 54 yards, but also received 6 targets and caught 5 of those for 25 yards and a touchdown (totaling 18.9 DK points).  The Chargers are in a better spot as they host the Dolphins in their home opener, who gave up the 3rd most rushing yards against last year.  The workload should continue for Melvin, as he ran the ball 20+ times 6 times last year before getting injured towards the end of the season, and in a good match up I think he should have a very solid fantasy scoring day.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Tyreek Hill (KC) $6,200

Although he may be a popular play after 29.8 DraftKings points in primetime last Thursday vs the Patriots, I will still be playing Tyreek Hill here in Week 2 of the NFL season.  The Chiefs will host the Eagles in their home opener and have a high implied team total at 26.5 points.  Hill has scored 20+ DraftKings points in 5 of his last 12 games and had over 15 DraftKings points in 7 of those 12 games.  He’s capable of the long touchdown pass, like we saw last week with a 75 Yard TD score, which is why I think he makes a great GPP play this week in a good match up.

Chris Hogan (NE) $5,600

This could be a great time to get Chris Hogan at lower ownership after a poor Week 1, where he caught just 1 pass for 8 yards on his 5 targets.  The Patriots are in New Orleans to face the Saints with what may be the highest over/under on the board for the entire season at 55.5 points.  The Patriots are favored by 7 points as well, making their implied team total 31.3 points.  I said “lower” ownership in the first sentence, because I do expect him to be somewhat popular due to the high total, but people may be looking at Brandin Cooks in a revenge spot, Gronkowski in a good match up, or one of the Patriots running backs over Hogan.  In his two games where he received over 5 targets last year he scored 42 and 27.6 DraftKings points.

TIGHT ENDS

Jared Cook (OAK) $3,300

Each week I try and find at least one low owned player for these picks, and for Week 2 it’s at the Tight End position with Jared Cook.  The Raiders are facing the New York Jets and are expected to score around 28 points in their home opener.  Cook is coming off a solid debut with his new team, catching all 5 targets for 56 yards.  Last year he had a great season once recovering from an early injury, scoring 20+ DraftKings points in 3 of his last 10 games. In a plus match up and at a good price I’m liking Cook as a contrarian play this week.

Good luck this week, and feel free to leave your favorite DraftKings NFL Week 2 picks in the comment section below!
